Decorative Pillows: Choose Woven Art for Sofa, Bed, or Chair
By Jennifer, founder of Sisterly Gifts.
Decorative pillows are easier to choose when you decide what the room should notice first: a bird, a landscape, a raven, or a playful animal. Pick one design that gives the space a point of view, then check its size and construction before you buy.
These five examples come from Sisterly's own woven pillow range. Their designs are woven into the fabric rather than printed on top. If you want to compare the full range first, browse Sisterly's woven throw pillows.
Start with the motif and where the pillow will live
For a sofa, decide whether the pillow should be the main illustrated accent or one part of a larger mix. On an accent chair, one design can stand alone. On a bed, check that the artwork will still be visible in front of your sleeping pillows. The five motifs below answer different tastes; you do not need to collect all five to make the room feel finished.
Mountain landscape: a quiet scene for a sofa or chair
A landscape reads like a small artwork without requiring every other accent to share the same motif. Try it on a plain accent chair, or give it space at one end of a sofa. The scene is the reason to choose this one; compare its colors with the largest surface in your room before ordering.

Chickadee: a detail for the person who notices birds
A bird design gives a reading chair or bedroom a specific point of interest. If the room already has plenty of pattern, let the chickadee sit beside a plain cushion rather than another illustrated animal. It is also an easy motif to choose when you know someone's favorite subject but not their clothing size.
Goth Raven: a darker focal point
Choose the raven when you want the pillow to set the room's mood rather than blend into it. A single illustrated accent can carry a sofa or chair; you can repeat a color from the artwork elsewhere without repeating the bird itself. For a fuller moody-room plan, see our dark cottagecore decor guide.
Sea otter: a playful piece with folk-art florals
This is the choice for someone who wants a room to feel personal and a little less solemn. The otter and floral details give you more than one color or motif to pick up with nearby objects. If flowers are the main attraction, our floral throw pillow guide compares other botanical directions.
Celestial bear: a statement for the bed or reading corner
The bear, mountains, and sky make this a story-rich accent. Give the illustration room to be seen against solid bedding or a plain chair back. If you are choosing for a small space, measure the visible area first: a pillow that hides the entire chair or covers the sleeping pillows may be more artwork than you intended.

Check size and construction before choosing
Each featured product lists one size, 17 × 18 inches (about 43 × 46 cm). Measure the chair back, sofa corner, or bed area where you want it to sit. This is a useful middle-sized accent, but dimensions on a product page are a better guide than a photo alone.
The current product descriptions list a 58% cotton and 42% polyester woven fabric, jacquard construction, polyester filling, and a pillow that is sewn closed rather than a removable cover.
Jennifer has personally designed and handled Sisterly's products; she describes the woven-in artwork as part of what makes these pillows feel like decorative pieces in their own right.
If you prefer covers you can routinely remove or swap, check that detail before choosing one of these filled pillows.
Make the design feel at home
- Give an illustrated pillow a little space. Try it next to a plain cushion or on its own, so the artwork is easy to see.
- Repeat a color, not necessarily the whole print. A color from the pillow can appear in a throw or small object without making every textile match.
- Use the room's existing interests. A bird motif suits a feeder-watcher's reading corner; a scenic piece can echo artwork already on the wall.
For more botanical combinations, see our floral throw pillow guide. If you are coordinating a bed or a reading nook, our cottagecore bedroom ideas show how woven accents can work together.
