Woven Blanket Guide: How to Choose the Right Size and Design

Boho Art Flower Woven Blanket with cream flowers on green

September 24, 2026

Choose a woven blanket by measuring where you want to use it, deciding how much coverage you need, and picking a design that still looks good when folded. A large bird illustration needs room to show; a bold floral pattern can work with just a few blooms draped over a chair.

If you are buying a gift, the tricky part is choosing something that fits their home as well as their interests. You might know they love hummingbirds without knowing the width of their sofa.

Below, you can compare three cotton woven blankets from our own Sisterly range, see their dimensions in inches and centimeters, and choose a pattern with a particular person or room in mind.

I’ve personally designed and handled our woven blankets. They are designed and made in the US, woven on jacquard looms, and I think of them as artwork you can also curl up with. That is why this guide looks at the picture as well as the measurements: a design you love should work in the place you want to use it.

Which woven blanket size should you choose?

Start with the space you want to cover, rather than the word “throw.” The Boho Art Flower, Hummingbird, and Heron blankets featured here each come in three sizes. Measure your chair, sofa, or bed before deciding how much coverage you want.

Sisterly woven blanket sizes
Size Consider it for
52 × 37 in
Approx. 132 × 94 cm
A smaller lap layer or an accent over a chair.
60 × 50 in
Approx. 152 × 127 cm
More coverage for sitting on the sofa, or a folded decorative layer.
80 × 60 in
Approx. 203 × 152 cm
A larger drape, more room to wrap up, or a decorative layer across a bed.

These are nominal product dimensions, with centimeter conversions rounded. Suggested uses depend on your height, furniture, and preferred coverage; they are not guarantees of full coverage for any particular bed size.

Measure the space before choosing

For a chair, measure the area you want the blanket to cover. For a sofa, decide whether you want it folded over one arm or spread across a larger section. For a bed, measure its width and add the amount of overhang you want on each side.

For example, if the area you want to cover is 60 inches wide and you would like 10 inches of drape on each side, you need an 80-inch span in that direction. Check the other dimension too, and consider which way the design will face. A tall bird illustration looks different turned sideways.

What is a woven throw blanket?

“Woven” describes fabric made by interlacing yarns. “Throw” describes how the blanket is used. A woven throw blanket can therefore be both a useful layer and a piece of patterned textile decor.

Our Boho Art Flower, Hummingbird, and Heron blankets are made from 100% cotton yarn and have fringed edges. If you are comparing cotton throws with other blanket types, look at the construction as well as the fiber content. Cotton alone does not tell you how thick a blanket is, or how warm it will feel to you.

Choose a woven blanket by the pattern you want to live with

For bold flowers: Boho Art Flower Woven Blanket

Green woven blanket with large cream flowers, dark leaves, and a fringed edge, displayed on a wall

The Boho Art Flower Woven Blanket has large cream blooms, yellow centers, and dark leafy shapes against green. The broad pattern is a good starting point if you want the blanket to be a noticeable part of the room.

Try it across a plain sofa with a cream cushion, or fold it over a chair so a flower and part of the leafy design remain visible. Its garden connection makes it a thoughtful gift for someone who loves flowers but has already filled every windowsill with plants.

Choose your size by use: the smallest option may suit a chair accent; compare the middle and largest options for the amount of sofa coverage you want. The catalog image shows a wall display, so use the measurements above rather than the scene to judge scale.

For a colorful garden feel: Hummingbird Blanket

Cotton woven blanket featuring a teal hummingbird among peach and orange flowers

The Hummingbird Blanket combines a teal bird with peach and orange flowers. Choose it when you want several colors to work with, rather than a mostly two-tone pattern.

Pick one shade from the design for a nearby cushion or another small detail in the room. A plain teal cushion would draw attention to the bird; a warm neutral would leave more of the attention on the flowers. You do not need a matching floral print on every surface.

For gifting: this is a natural choice for someone who notices the birds as much as the blooms. Select the dimensions for their favorite sitting spot, then let the design supply the personal connection.

For an earthy focal point: Heron Woven Blanket

Rust-toned heron and botanical design on a light woven blanket with fringe

The Heron Woven Blanket centers a large bird illustration within botanical details. Its rust-toned design and light background offer a warmer, quieter palette than the hummingbird option.

Choose it for a room with natural wood, cream upholstery, or earthy accents. To show more of the heron, spread the blanket rather than folding it into a narrow strip. If you are considering a wall display, measure the wall and choose a textile-appropriate hanging method separately.

For a bird lover: the motif can make the gift feel specific without needing their clothing size. Our bird-lover gift guide has more wearable and home ideas to compare.

Can you use a woven blanket as a throw or bed accent?

Yes. You can fold it across the foot of a bed or use it as another decorative layer. That does not mean every throw will cover the whole mattress or provide the coverage you want for sleeping. Compare the blanket's actual dimensions with your bed before choosing.

If you mainly want the pattern, consider how much of the illustration will remain visible once folded. A design with one large central bird may deserve more space than a small folded corner allows.

How should you care for a woven blanket?

Follow the care label and the instructions for the specific blanket you buy. A woven cotton throw, a wool throw, and a synthetic fleece can have different requirements, so a general “throw blanket” washing rule is not enough.

Before ordering, check the care information on your chosen product page. If a washing or drying setting is unclear, ask before using it. The label should guide cleaning; the way a blanket is styled in a photo should not.

Is a woven throw a good gift for a gardener?

It can be, especially when the design reflects what they love about their garden. Choose flowers for the person who plans around blooms, a hummingbird for someone who loves birds and flowers together, or a heron for a friend with a particular fondness for that bird.

Then think about their home. Do they have a favorite chair, a plain sofa that could use some pattern, or a place to display textile art? Those details help you choose a useful size and design without guessing their clothing fit.

Choose your nature-inspired woven blanket

Choose the Boho Art Flower Blanket for bold floral shapes, the Hummingbird Blanket for teal and warm flower tones, or the Heron Woven Blanket for an earthy bird design. Start with the measurements, then choose the picture you want to keep close.
